Taco Bell Double Stacked Tacos Review

The Taco Bell Double Stacked Tacos are back! This is the first time they are back on the menu since being released back in 2016, and come in three varieties for a dollar each: Nacho Crunch, Chipotle Cheddar, and Reaper Ranch. With a soft taco shell covered in nacho cheese attached to a hard taco shell, these resemble a poor man’s Cheesy Gordita Crunch, but for less than a third of the price. I tried all three of these tacos and will give my impressions on each.

The first one I tried was the Nacho Crunch, which was by far the least remarkable of the three. It tasted just like a normal hard shell taco, just with a small amount of red strips added. These provide very little to the taco itself since they are usually added to items like burritos to add a crunch, but the hard shell of the taco already performs that job. It was definitely much neater than eating a normal hard taco because of the soft shell containing the ingredients, but the taco was nothing special.

The next one I tried was the Chipotle Cheddar Doubled Stacked Taco. This one is great for people that like Taco Bell’s Creamy Chipotle Sauce as it is added to the taco instead of the red strips of the Nacho Crunch. The only issue I had was that the sauce was not evenly spread and was overall pretty stingy. This led to a couple of bites where there was a nice burst of flavor from the Creamy Chipotle Sauce, but the rest were once again like eating a normal taco. I do not know why they emphasize cheddar in the name of the taco since there does not appear to be any more cheddar than the other varieties.

The final one I tried was the Reaper Ranch, which was my favorite of the three varieties. The taco comes with Taco Bell’s Reaper Ranch Sauce, which gave me strong sriracha vibes. The best part about this taco is that it had a generous amount of sauce, but even bites with a small amount were full of flavor due to the richness of the sauce. This was the taco that was least like a normal hard taco and tasted the best due to the sauce.

All three of the tacos had the same issue that normal hard tacos have, which is the shell breaking in the middle due to the ground beef weakening it or the sides due to handled it too harshly. This is where the soft taco is perfect, since it catches everything that may have fallen out of a normal hard shell taco. The nacho cheese was very scarce on all three of the tacos and could not be tasted at all, adding nothing to the tacos.

All-in-all, these are essentially just hard tacos with added sauce or red chips that are less messy to eat due to the soft taco shell. Still, Taco Bell tacos are delicious and for a dollar each, you can buy two or three of these and have a very filling meal for very cheap. I would recommend these as a value option if eating at Taco Bell, but would prefer more expensive “premium” items if money is not an issue.
